Ministries > Healing
We, at Walton, are fortunate to have Parish Nursing, a healing ministry that responds to the needs of our congregation and community.
The Parish Nurse, a vital part of the Health Ministry, extends to you a hand for your life-long journey towards holistic health.
WHY ?
- Nursing originated in the church, whose ministry through the ages included healing and health.
- Healing, defined as "to make whole", is central to the church’s ministry today.
- Healing, not to be confused with curing, is the restoration of wholeness, the process of uniting body, mind, and spirit.
- While God has given us the miraculous gift of life, it is everyone’s responsibility to keep the body, mind and spirit well - we are stewards of our own health.
- Jesus not only healed people from something , but to something.
- The pursuit of wellness is our faith response to Jesus Christ, driven by the Holy Spirit.
Wellness permits us to fulfill our life’s purpose.
HOW ?
The parish nurse provides a link between faith and health by combining her faith and spirituality with nursing knowledge and skills. Her main focus is:
- promotion of health
- prevention of disease
WHAT?
The parish nurse (a Registered Nurse), in co-operation with the clergy, health cabinet, congregation and community at large will :
- develop and teach short courses in wellness and health care,
- foster reconciliation of body, mind, and spirit,
- counsel individual members of the parish,
- visit church members in home, hospital and other facilities,
- act as an advocate and liaison with the community and be a referral and resource person.
- work with existing volunteer groups, recruiting and educating additional volunteers, as needed.

The parish nurse is in the church office every Thursday, 6:30pm - 8:30p.m. except during the summer. She can be reached, at any time, by calling the Church Office 905 827 1643. Please leave a message on the answering machine if the office is closed.
