Thank you from the UCW

Walton Cookie Walk

A huge thank you to everyone who donated such wonderful, delicious cookies for the Cookie Walk, and those who came to purchase their box(es) of cookies to support the U.C.W. U.C.W. raised $1,287.00 and were sold out of cookies in less than 45 minutes.

Thanks to the Junior Youth Group who put all the boxes together, ready for the Cookie Walk.

Thank you

Thank you to everyone who helped make the Senior Social on Thursday, December 3rd, such an enjoyable time for all. Many people contributed to making this time such a huge success, those organizing, setting up, making phone calls, baking, making coffee, serving, cleaning up and especially the more than eighty people who came out to enjoy Oakville Rock “n” Seniors perform. A great time of music, laughter and fellowship shared by all. Thank you, one and all.

White Gift Gratitude

Thank you to all the children, youth and parents involved with the White Gift Service last Sunday, and for the generosity of our Walton Family. As we continue our journey to Christmas, please help us to remember God’s gift of Jesus. God has a Plan for each one of us, let us give thanks and share his hope, peace joy and love this Christmas season.

The Outreach Committee sends you the most heartfelt thank you for your wonder-filled generosity on White Gift Sunday. For just a moment, imagine the children with their beautiful, hopeful eyes taking home a gift they had only have dreamed of and the parents whose spirits rise as they are able to take home a gift for their child and some extra groceries and warm mittens and scarves.

Wesley Urban Ministries will be able to buy needed fresh items with your financial donations as well as some dolls and train sets. We thank you on behalf of those less fortunate for giving them some hope in these trying and difficult times. Out Of Our Abundance, O

Can you help deliver Walton’s Christmas Postcards?

Christmas at WaltonWe are looking for people to deliver these appealing colour postcards with the Christmas service times printed on them to houses in your neighbourhood. If you can help, please arrange to come by the Church Office ( 905-827-1643)  to pick up the number of postcards you need. Tell us too generally what area/streets you will be doing. Thanks for helping invite others to Walton

SYRIAN REFUGEE ASSISTANCE

VolunteerYou have generously made financial donations to the Syrian Relief Fund of more than $1400.00 to date.  These funds have been channeled through the United Church aid agencies already established for several years on the ground in Jordan and Lebanon; this is a continuous fund and donations can be made through the Church Office or through the Offering Plates. Thank you.

Practical Assistance: Members of the Outreach Committee have been to many meetings and have discussed various ways in which we might participate in helping families already here in Canada or endeavouring to reach Canada. We have a sub-committee to investigate some ways to help, or join up with other organizations. Sponsoring a family is a long term commitment with large in-place financial requirements, but there must be opportunities to help in other ways. There is a sign-up sheet at the Welcome Desk so that she may be in contact with you. It is important to form this sub-committee of congregation members and their friends and family with a desire to assist in this dreadful situation.

Another win for the Walton Santa Clause Parade float!

Our Santa Claus Parade float was a big hit this year!  We won the Honourable Mention Award in the “Best Community Float” category!  The great turnout this year, both on the float (21) and in the walking group (26), definitely contributed to our success. Thank you all! Both the people watching and the judges loved the enthusiasm from the Walton float, how the kids and their parents waved their pom-poms and sang along with the music following Michelle’s and Gill’s actions, and the bubbles brought big smiles to the kids watching along the parade route. We also thank Linda Fletcher and the Youth Choir for recording her “A Song of Sharing” that so perfectly fit our theme, and Lou McAulay for mastering the music mix once again.

If you would like to purchase one of the red or green T-shirts or would like to order one, leave a note at the Church office for Eva. Lastly, from all of us to all of you, a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!

REMEMBER LOVED ONES WITH A CHRISTMAS MEMORIAL

Once again anyone connected with the Walton congregation has the opportunity of making a special memorial gift to Walton at Christmas time. These memorials will all be listed in a special bulletin on Sunday, Dec. 20 and dedicated at both 9:30 & 11 am services. Suggestions from the Worship committee this year are:

~ Red or white poinsettias or white mums. If you buy poinsettias from the youth group, the flowers can be placed in the sanctuary for you.
~ The Walton Benevolent Fund (see below) Please contact the church office to make your donation, whether flowers or a Benevolent Fund donation, so that it can be recorded. The deadline for your donation to be included in the Dec. 20 bulletin is noon on Sunday, Dec. 13. We would not want to miss putting your gift in this special bulletin so please contact the office as soon as possible at 905-827-1643.

WHAT IS THE BENEVOLENT FUND?

nativity-30571_1280HOW DOES WALTON HELP PEOPLE? It is a confidential fund, managed by Rev. Gill with help from the staff. It helps people in need because of illness, unemployment or an unexpected accident, setback or tragedy. Every year it helps many people in the congregation with financial and material assistance.

Because of the difficult economic situation Walton has helped a record number of its congregation struggling with financial worries. It also helps those in the community and occasional transients who stop by the church. In addition the fund assists any youth or adult in the congregation who cannot afford to attend a retreat or church event which involves a cost. It helps various local causes, organizations or activities which have emergent needs over the year. The money for this fund comes from two main sources: the largest is the Christmas memorial programme; the other is individual donors throughout the year. All gifts to this fund receive a tax receipt. The work of the fund and remains highly confidential to allow for anonymous support of people in need. For more information please speak to Rev. Gill.
