Thank you fro the Outreach Committee

A Loud THANK YOU from the Outreach Committee: Once again our warm thanks go out to our congregation and our community for turning out with such enthusiasm to the PANCAKE SUPPER on Shrove Tuesday, February 9th, 2016.

It felt like everyone needed a night out and wanted to support our cause and many of you came to attend the Services. Bronte Hall was full to capacity with happy families, old friends and new friends, all enjoying some good fellowship.

We will donate the proceeds of your generous contributions from the Free Will Offering to the Special Olympics Swim Team – Oakville. As an example of their out-of-pocket costs, pool rental has gone up to $9,000. a year.  Our dinners would not be nearly so exciting without your contributions of treats and goodies and we thank you for bringing us such an array.

Our outreach projects are only possible through your enthusiastic support – there are no new words to say to you, just “thank much from all of us.” Out Of Our Abundance, O Lord.

SUNDAY SCHOOL

Jelly Beans - Sunday School - Walton United Church

Memory Verse: John 15:13 “Great love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” Today, we are starting our Easter lessons; for the next four weeks we are looking at Jelly Beans. What can jelly beans teach us about Jesus?   Well, white jelly beans remind us that Jesus lived a perfect life and set the example for how we should live.

Hello Pancake Eaters, Bakers and Cookie Makers

The annual Shrove Tuesday PANCAKE SUPPER will take place on Tuesday, February 9th, 2016. This year we have chosen to support the Special Olympics Swim Team – Oakville with our Free Will Offering – you will have heard both athletes and parents speak on Outreach Sunday on January 17th and you will have heard the jingle of their many medals – champions all. The athletes, coaches and parents are very excited about attending our Pancake Supper.

Deserts needed!! We are aware that requests are many, but, if you could bake an extra dessert one day when you are baking, or make a special effort to bake something, for Tuesday, February 9th, it will be of great help to us. Contact of the Outreach Committee, or drop by the Kitchen on the day of the Supper after 2:00 p.m. Thanks as always.

P.S. Gluten-free pancakes are available, but we request advance notice.

 SYRIAN REFUGEE ASSISTANCE

VolunteerYou have generously made financial donations to the Syrian Relief Fund of more than $1400.00 to date.  These funds have been channeled through the United Church aid agencies already established for several years on the ground in Jordan and Lebanon; this is a continuous fund and donations can be made through the Church Office or through the Offering Plates. Thank you.

Practical Assistance: Members of the Outreach Committee have been to many meetings and have discussed various ways in which we might participate in helping families already here in Canada or endeavouring to reach Canada. We have a sub-committee to investigate some ways to help, or join up with other organizations. Sponsoring a family is a long term commitment with large in-place financial requirements, but there must be opportunities to help in other ways. There is a sign-up sheet at the Welcome Desk so that she may be in contact with you. It is important to form this sub-committee of congregation members and their friends and family with a desire to assist in this dreadful situation.
