Hymn: Gather Us In

Here in this place, the new light is streaming,
Now is the darkness vanished away;
See in this space our fears and our dreamings
Brought here to you in the light of this day.

Gather us in, the lost and forsaken,
Gather us in, the blind and the lame;
Call to us now, and we shall awaken,
We shall arise at the sound of our name.

We are the young, our lives are a mystery,
We are the old who yearn for your face;
We have been sung throughout all of our history,
Called to be light to the whole human race.

Gather us in, the rich and the haughty,
Gather us in, the proud and the strong;
Give us a heart, so meek and so lowly,
Give us the courage to enter the song.

Here we will take the wine and the water,
Here we will take the bread of new birth,
Here you shall call your sons and your daughters,
Call us anew to be salt for the earth.

Give us to drink the wine of compassion,
Give us to eat the bread that is you;
Nourish us well, and teach us to fashion
Lives that are holy and hearts that are true.

Not in the dark of buildings confining,
Not in some heaven, light years away,
Here in this place the new light is shining,
Now is the kingdom, and now is the day.

Gather us in and hold us forever,
Gather us in and make us your own;
Gather us in, all peoples together,
Fire of love in our flesh and our bone.

Invitation to Worship

One: As friends of Jesus,
All: we gather here today.
One: We have come from many places:
All: many homes, many cultures,
One: that we might be one community in Christ.
All: May our time together bring us closer to the heart of God and closer to one another.

B. Root, The Gathering Pentecost 2

Opening Prayer

Infinite One, we gather this morning… on our way from something… on our way to something… but here we stop. We stop to rest, to turn our attention to all that is holy. We stop to gather in community, held and loved, to break bread together. We stop to give praise, to sing, to pray, to listen, to experience your Spirit moving among us. Gracious God, it is good to be here. Amen.

S. Spencer, The Gathering Pentecost 2, 2019

Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in Heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done
on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory.
Forever and ever.

Hymn: Come to My Heart (vs.1)

Come to my heart, Lord Jesus;
Teach me to walk in Your way.
Come to my heart, Lord Jesus;
Come to my heart today.

Give me the peace and joy that only You can bring.
Come to my heart, Lord Jesus,
Give me a song to sing.

Youth Story: “Signs & Symbols”

Go My Children (sung)

Go, my children, with my blessing, never alone.
Waking, sleeping, I am with you,
you are my own.
In my love’s baptismal river,
I have made you mine forever.
Go, my children, with my blessing,
you are my own.

Doxology: Give Thanks (Sung)

Give thanks
with a grateful heart,
Give thanks
to the Holy One
Give thanks
because He’s given
Jesus Christ, His Son.

And now
let the weak say,
“We are strong”
Let the poor say,
“We are rich.”
Because of
what the Lord
has done for us.
Give thanks.
Give thanks.

Offering Prayer

Abundant God, full of surprises! A simple loaf of bread becomes food for a hungry world. A chalice of unfermented wine becomes hope for the young and not so young. Today, we join hands with siblings in Christ all around the world. Today, we share our offerings, knowing that they, like the loaf and cup, will help to bring new life to this congregation and to the world that you so love. Receive them with delight, we pray. Amen.

Hymn: Speak, O Lord (vs.1)

Speak, O Lord, as we come to you
To receive the food of your holy Word.
Take your truth, plant it deep in us;
Shape and fashion us in your likeness

That the light of Christ might be
seen today
In our acts of love and our deeds
of faith.
Speak, O Lord, and fulfill in us
All your purposes for your glory.

Morning message

Hymn: Sent Forth By God’s Blessing (481VU)

Sent forth by God’s blessing,
our true faith confessing,
The people of God
from this dwelling take leave.
The supper is ended,
O now be extended
The fruits of this service
in all who believe.

The seed of Christ’s teaching,
receptive souls reaching,
Shall blossom in action
for God and for all.
God’s grace did invite us,
God’s love shall unite us
To work for the Kingdom
and answer its call.

With praise and thanksgiving
to God ever living,
The tasks of our everyday
life we will face.
Our faith ever sharing,
in love ever caring,
Embracing God’s children
of each tribe and race.

With Your feast You feed us,
with Your light now lead us;
Unite us as one
in this life that we share.
Then may all the living
with praise and thanksgiving
Give honour to Christ
and the name that we bear.

Hymn: You Shall Go Out With Joy (884VU)

You shall go out with joy
and be led forth with peace;
the mountains and the hills
will break forth before you;
there’ll be shouts of joy,
and all the trees of the field
will clap, will clap their hands!

And all the trees of the field will clap their hands (clap, clap)
the trees of the field will clap their hands (clap, clap)
the trees of the field will clap their hands (clap, clap)
while you go out with joy.
