Luke 1:36-37 The angel Gabriel tells Mary about Elizabeth

And now, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son; and this is the sixth month for her who was said to be barren. For nothing will be impossible with God.

Nothing will be impossible with God. Nothing. The immensity of that short sentence is worth repeating. Pause and let the majesty of that one phrase settle deep in your heart. Nothing will be impossible with God. Except all too often, in our lives, we cast ourselves in the role of God and believe that we have all the ideas and need to make all the plans. Then we assume the burden of finding all the answers, and let despair and frustration run riot when life doesn’t align with our predetermined views. The words of the angel Gabriel come as a gentle and yet powerful reminder that this is God’s role not ours. For nothing will be impossible with God.

Omnipotent God, ground us in an awareness of Your majesty and power, and help us remember our insignificance compared to Your glory. As much as we spend our time and energy striving over our personal plans, we are nothing without Your love and strength. Remind us always that You see all things and know all things and that nothing is impossible for You. Remind us to bring to You our cares and concerns and to trust in Your almighty power. Amen.
