Blessed - Advent Devotional @ Walton United Church, Oakville, Ontario

Throughout the gospels and the early Christian ministry, there are many connections made that link Jesus to Old Testament prophecies and writings. Psalm 16 (see below) is one such scripture that was seen by the disciples as foretelling Jesus’ life. The praise shared here by King David provides a tribute to God as our companion; a God who guides and directs us through life. Through David’s words, we also can sing of our God who is there for us, bringing good into our lives and supporting us in difficult times; our God who speaks to us through our hearts and will never abandon us. It is a short Psalm that reassures us as much as it praises God.

Loving God, guide me and counsel me, as I head through each day. Be my companion through the challenges I face and the decisions I make, and fill my heart with Your grace, restoring me each night to Your love and purpose for me. Amen

Psalm 16: 7-8

I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
