Centering Prayer is a Christian form of meditation, revived in the 1970s by Father Thomas Keating – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centering_prayer – and practised currently in many settings, including on Zoom. “Come and find the quiet centre In the crowded life we live…be at peace, and simply be.” Voices United, #374
Every Tuesday evening, from 7:00 pm to approximately 8:30 pm, a Centering Prayer session is facilitated on Zoom. We practise Centering Prayer for 20 minutes, study a Bible verse or watch a video about Centering Prayer, and finish with social time.
If you are interested in trying it out, get in touch with Joan Vinall-Cox through the church office for more information — office@waltonmemorial.com
I used to find praying awkward and was always worrying that God already knew everything I wanted or feared or was thankful for. When I was introduced to Centering Prayer, I knew it was the prayer approach I needed, even though it took me a while to feel confident that I was praying in silence “properly”. Initially, I practised mostly just at meetings, but I now practice daily and sometimes twice a day, not because I “should” but because I’m drawn to it. I come out of a Centering Prayer practice calmer, kinder and more centred. It has deepened my sense of being spiritually connected.
