Lead - Advent Devotional @ Walton United Church, Oakville, Ontario

Moses was one of a number of Old Testament characters who foretold the coming of a messiah, and was – as we read yesterday – specifically referenced by the gospel writers. Picking up from yesterday, we see Moses writing in Deuteronomy about the coming of a prophet who would speak God’s words and lead his followers to understand and to live out God’s ministry. Moses wrote that his people were afraid to hear God directly and so this prophet would be able to share God’s words for us instead. Therefore both in his living and his dying, Jesus leads us closer to God’s direction and our salvation.

Loving God, as You will save me in the next world, I pray that You lead me in this world. Make me receptive to Your teaching through the life and ministry of Jesus and support me to listen to the words You have for me. Amen.

Deuteronomy 18: 18

I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their own people; I will put my words in the mouth of the prophet, who shall speak to them everything that I command.

Thank you for joining us on this prayerful path through Advent.
Blessings and best wishes for 2018.
