Christmas Banners

Thank you to Kathy Morch for sharing her creativity, talents and skills, and hours and hours of work to help the Sunday School Banners. Christmas Carols come to life this morning, here in the Sanctuary. Kathy, along with the help of the Sunday School Children (and teachers and parents), created banners of some of the favourite Christmas Carols sung through this special season of Advent and Christmas.

Cookie Walk

Cookie Walk @ Walton United Church, Oakville, Ontario Walton’s U.C.W. were overwhelmed with the generosity and spirit of our amazing congregation. The cookies and squares were simply beautiful and we received more than ever. A huge thank you to everyone who donated such wonderful, delicious cookies and those who came to purchase their box(es) of cookies to support the U.C.W.  U.C.W. raised $1, 240.00. Thanks to the Junior Youth Group and their Leader who put all the boxes together and decorated a number of cookies for the Cookie Walk. Thanks to “The Fruit of the Vine” ladies who came and helped set out the trays, and thanks to the ladies who helped with the planning and came at the beginning and stayed until the very end. Our Annual Cookie Walk was started by Henny Degenhardt 45 years ago, and some of Henny’s family came to celebrate this 45th Anniversary. In loving memory, we missed our long-standing chair lady, Shirley Walmsley.

News from the Outreach Committee

socks it to me @ Walton United Church, Oakville, Ontario Thank you for participating with such warm hearts in Sock It To Me
Sunday and the Mitten Trees; as well as our Personal Care Kits. We want to tell you all about the influence you have had through your donations!

You pelted us with 536 pairs of socks – these were given out as follows:
•  200 placed in donated mugs with a lip balm to be given out at the
Wesley Centre Sunday Dinner we served on November 19th
• 85 to Wesley Christmas Store; 61 to Kerr Street Mission for the teens After School/Homework Program; 100 to Kerr Street Mission for their Pyjamas and Socks Christmas Program
•  75 to Outreach Committee for Personal Care Kit use
•  15 delivered to Shifra House with Lip Balm
•  after the count, 20 more pairs will be delivered to the Lighthouse
Shelter on December 18th when we serve dinner.

Well done Walton! More than 550 pairs of socks donated. We are told that the most asked-for item by marginalized people is – socks!

Mitten Tree @ Walton United Church, Oakville, OntarioThe Mitten Tree Crop was overwhelming – 522 pieces (hat/mitts
or scarf/mitts counts as one).

• Kerr Street Mission 31 Hats/Mitts Sets

WHAT IS THE BENEVOLENT FUND?? HOW DOES WALTON HELP PEOPLE??
There have been requests to explain what this fund is all about. Many people are not even aware of its existence. It is a confidential fund, managed by Rev. Gill, with help from some other staff, to help people in need due to illness, unemployment, or some un-expected accident, setback, or tragedy. Every year it helps people in the congregation in need through financial and material assistance. It also helps those in the community and occasional transients who stop by the Church looking for assistance. This fund helps any youth/adult in the congregation who cannot afford to attend a retreat, or church event, that involves a cost, plus special organization needs in the community from time to time. The money for this fund comes from 2 main sources. The largest is the Christmas Memorial Program (see Christmas edition of the Waltonian, and above notice on Christmas Memorials), and individual donors throughout the year. All gifts to this fund receive a tax receipt. The work of the fund remains highly confidential to allow for anonymous support of people in need. For more information, please
speak to Rev. Gill 905-827-1643 or email office@waltonmemorial.com
