For over 10 years, Walton’s Outreach Committee has been collecting items to make personal care kits.

Many volunteers have sewn the bags that the personal care items are collected in. The bags are taken by people to fill as they do their weekly shopping and then return them to the church. Some parents have used them as a teaching tool for their young people; who seem to love filling the bags.

One of the Outreach Committee members looks after all the Personal Care Kits that come in and all the other personal hygiene items which arrive in our collection box. They check all the contents and when a certain number of Kits have been collected, the bags are delivered to places like Kerr Street Mission for distribution.

Items for personal care kits are still needed. Please contact the church office to arrange to drop them off.

The closer we get to December 25th, the more frenzied the shopping can become. Last minute sales and limited time offers can ratchet up the pressure to buy that perfect gift. But James reminds us that every act of giving, every generous deed, comes from God. All we do that is good comes from God.

Dear Lord, abundant God,
Bring our focus back to the essence of this season. Remind us that material gifts fade in comparison next to our acts of giving, which are available to all of us, in all our places – and that your gift is the most wonderful gift of all, your son, Jesus Christ.
Amen.

Matthew 3: 1-3, 11

17 Every generous act of giving, with every perfect gift, is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. 18 In fulfilment of his own purpose he gave us birth by the word of truth, so that we would become a kind of first fruits of his creatures.
