Announcements for the week of September 24, 2023

This morning is the last Sunday of our 10:00 am summer services. We look forward to seeing you at the 9:30 or 11:00 am services next Sunday, October 1st.

🎉 New to Walton? Are you visiting today? Welcome! Please feel free to ask the ushers if you have any questions during the service and we invite you to fill out a welcome card in the pew racks and leave it in an offering plate at one of the doors. Please join us for coffee, tea or cold drinks and conversation in Bronte Hall after the 10:00 am service. There you’ll also find the Welcome Centre with information about Walton and someone to chat with. Walton nametags, hats, pickles etc. are also available for purchase. Children and youth are invited to view this week’s virtual Sunday School lesson online.

Reception and transfer of Membership on Sunday, October 1st, 2023. If you would like to transfer to Walton from another congregation, please contact the Church Office. If you are a confirmed member of any Christian denomination, you are able to transfer to Walton. For more information, please contact Rev. Jim or the Church Office.

Hello, Fruit of the Vine Ladies – The new school year brings with it a chance to get together and catch up. Last year’s “tailgating” social was a lot of fun so we’re bringing it back for our first event this year. Val already has the campfire ready to go. We’re meeting in Walton’s back parking lot from 7:00 pm to 8:30 p.m. “ish” on Tuesday, October 3rd. You don’t need a truck with a tailgate to join us. Bring a camp chair, and a beverage in a travel mug, and dress for the weather. Bring a friend too if you know someone who would enjoy the social time. Note: You might want to bring along a cosy blanket for when the sun goes down. Come join us, renew old friendships or make new ones and help us plan for this year’s Fruit of the Vine activities. If you have any questions, send Steph an email through the church office at familyministries@waltonmemorial.com

Thanksgiving Food Drive: As we prepare to celebrate the many blessings in our lives, the Walton Outreach Committee is asking for your support for the Thanksgiving Food Drive. Donations of non-perishable food items can be placed in our Food Collection boxes at each of the church’s entrances. According to the Fare Share Food Bank, the items of greatest need are oatmeal, crackers, jam, coffee (instant regular or decaf), tea (regular, green, herbal), and snacks for kids such as fruit cups, puddings and juice boxes. The only items not needed at this time are peanut butter and spaghetti. Monetary donations are always welcome so that the Food Bank can source perishable items. Donations can be made through our weekly offering, at the church office or through the church website. Thank you for your caring and generosity – there are so many families on the hungry list!

Harvest Table – In the week leading up to Thanksgiving, we’d also appreciate donations of fresh fruits & vegetables for our Harvest Table, decorating the Sanctuary on Thanksgiving Sunday, Oct 8th. These items will be taken to the food bank after the service.

Port Nelson United is hosting a Service of Prayer with the Songs of Taize on Sunday, October 15 at 7:30 p.m. – a reflective way to end the day and begin the week. See Port Nelson’s website for more details.

Upcoming Bible Study – “Gratitude… Giving Thanks in Life’s Ups and Downs” starts Thursday, October 12th, for 8 weeks in Bronte Hall 10:15 to 11:45 a.m. Books are available through the church office, cost is $10.00. Each week we will look at a different Bible passage relevant to the topic of gratitude. Everyone is welcome, no experience necessary. Sign up online or in the office.

PHOTOS – We need your Walton activity photos for our new 2023-24 photo directory. We are looking for photos taken inside or outside of the church, of services, programs and activities on any day of the week. We are especially looking for pictures of Walton weddings and baptisms. They need to have been taken over the last 8 years (since the last directory). Photos must be in digital format and landscape orientation, please. They can be emailed to Craig Silva at craigger73@gmail.com.  Thanks for helping with our new photo directory, a visual record of our vibrant congregation.

What does the Bible say about Christian community? What does Christian community mean to you today?  A time to gather, discuss, question, listen, share, laugh, and ponder, as we explore the meaning of Christian community together. Everyone is welcome. Please sign up through the church office to ensure everyone has a copy of the book. The cost of the book is $10.00 and is available through the church office. If you have any questions, please speak to Cathy Winn.

The Prayer Shawls and Prayer Blankets are made with love and prayers, a reminder of God’s presence in our lives and in the world. Do you like to knit or crochet? Why not join us for a time of laughter, sharing, creating, prayer, and supporting others in this special ministry? New members are always welcome. Some supplies are provided. •  Important Announcement: Dear Walton family and friends,
With summer just around the corner, we wanted to let you know of some changes to our weekly worship services and Covid protocols at the church. It’s such a blessing to get back closer to our pre-Covid “normal” operations, while still maintaining those essential precautions which allow everyone to attend services comfortably and safely.

Summer service schedule
Beginning today, Sunday, June 5, we switch to our summer worship schedule with one weekly service at 10:00 am on Sundays. Virtual services will continue to be sent out at 2:00 pm.

Registration changes
Effective today, Sunday, June 5, registration for services and Sunday School is no longer required! Ushers will seat you on arrival, maintaining social distancing between groups. If you have a special need or seating preference, please let your usher know.

Masks are still required
Masks are required everywhere inside the church building. This includes the Sanctuary, Sunday School and Youth Group rooms, entrances, hallways, washrooms, and the kitchen.

Coffee hour / social hour
Coffee hour will take place following the 10am service. It will be held outdoors whenever weather permits, and in the air-conditioned comfort of Bronte Hall during unfavourable weather. When coffee hour is held indoors, masks may be removed briefly for drinking and eating, however, they are strongly recommended at all other times. All servers will be masked indoors.

Children and youth programming
Sunday School programming for grades K-5 will be offered during the 10am service. Junior and senior youth are welcome to assist. Starting today, Sunday, June 5, children and youth will now enter the Sanctuary with their families for the first part of the service. They will proceed to Sunday School following the youth story.

Entering and exiting the building
The Allen entrance (at the back), main tower stairs and Bronte Hall doors may now be used for entering and exiting the church for Sunday services. The choir loft exit will be used in emergencies only.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the church office at office@waltonmemorial.com or 905-827-1643
