Minister of Worship

Rev. Jim Gill @ Walton United Church, Oakville, OntarioRev. Jim Gill, Coordinating Minister, came to Walton having previously served the Bruce Mines/Desbarats Pastoral Charge near Sault Ste. Marie and Islington United Church in Toronto.

Under his leadership of 40 years, Walton has experienced growth in membership, church facilities, activities, programs, staffing and community involvement through outreach. Jim welcomes people into the Congregation through Baptisms, Weddings, Funerals and Group Studies. He was acknowledged for marrying more couples each year than anyone else in The United Church of Canada.

Jim has overseen five major renovations and expansions during his tenure, as the church has worked to meet the needs of the Walton expanding community of faith. A major commercial kitchen reno was completed during Covid.

Jim is Walton’s longest-serving pastor. He was instrumental in instituting a Student Minister Internship program, which became the longest-running congregational program in the denomination. His ability to reach out to people, his energy and his organizational skills continue to be a blessing to the congregation and community. His dedicated service to his congregation and his tireless ministry to reach those without a church home will surely provide for the well-being of the church in these post-pandemic years.

Student Minister

Gill Le Fevre and her family (husband Stuart, and 2 children Caitlin and Lachlan) have lived in Canada for over five years and been part of the Walton community for almost as long. Canada is the fourth country Gill has lived in – as well as Scotland, Australia and England – which explains her unusual accent!

Gill is our Student Minister at Walton, and her involvement includes preaching (about 15 times a year), as well as frequently assisting with worship leadership and the preparation of the bulletin prayers and liturgy. Gill writes the Advent and Lent Devotionals and serves on the Worship Committee. She also assists Stuart with the preparation of the Easy Worship slides for our services, and is one of the coordinators for our Fruit of the Vine women’s group.

Gill is currently enrolled in the Masters of Theological Studies program at Emmanuel College (part time) and in addition to her position with Walton, Gill works in Communications for Cancer Care Ontario. When not working or studying, Gill enjoys playing tennis and planning family (car) camping trips

Cathy Winn @ Walton United Church, Oakville, OntarioCathy Winn has been the Parish Nurse at Walton United Church for over 16 years.

Her nursing experience has included working in most areas of a local acute care hospital, including surgery, medicine, ICU, emergency, with some home care experience throughout the years, recently retiring from the outpatient Oncology Clinic.

Parish nursing is a very different kind of nursing from hospital and community nursing. Parish nursing allows her opportunities to get to know people on a much deeper level than hospital nursing ever could allow. Cathy feels that experiencing one’s faith journey together, sharing the joys, the challenges and sorrows of life with others, through her role as parish nurse is a real blessing and a true privilege for her.

“For surely I know the plans I have for you says the Lord, plans to prosper and protect you, to give you a future with hope. Then when you call upon me and come and pray to me, I will hear you. When you search for me, you will find me, if you seek me with all your heart.”

Financial Administrator

Stu Le Fevre @ Walton United Church, Oakville, Ontario

Stuart Le Fevre and his family (wife Gill and 2 children Caitlin and Lachlan) are “new Canadians”. They moved here from the UK in 2013, primarily for the better weather and the great outdoors, thereby triggering two of the worst Canadian winters in four decades. Since arriving in Canada they have been warmly welcomed into the Walton community and into several aspects of church life, including Stu’s role as Financial Administrator and singing in the Walton choir.

Stu’s background is Accounting and Finance, and prior to working at Walton had spent all of his working life in the UK banking sector, but please don’t hold that against him. He is now enjoying working in the church office with the rest of the team, and is grateful for having swapped the lengthy daily commute into London in the UK, for a 5 minute stroll to Walton.

The Le Fevres are very thankful for their new life in Bronte. When not at work Stu enjoys playing tennis, cycling, running and (watching) soccer, and making the most of the great Canadian outdoors by going on camping trips with his family.
